The utterance seems to be caused by the producer attempting to close the curtain on her increasingly unhinged performance (the play she is acting in is currently in previews in New Haven). However, what she is really humiliated by is the fact that she has been forced to become publicly unhinged in order to find a way to inhabit the role of The Second Woman. Humiliation is what happens when you work things out in public.
