Shokupan, which literally means “staple food bread,” is a Japanese-style milk bread known for its beautifully fluffy texture, and simple, slightly sweet flavor. Although the simplicity of the shokupan may make it seem secondary to the other components, from a Japanese perspective it represents a wholesome luxury, and is the heart of the meal.
