Hardcover (No Dust Jacket)

1947

A narrative on the general principles of cooking by an accomplished author (Pratt) of science fiction and fantasy novels. Eschewing recipes, there are chapters dedicated to discussions on meat, fowl, fish and vegetable cookery as well more specific dishes like ground meat  ("Grinding in Gastronomy") and composed salads for men ("Green Mansions"). Literary and historical references abound, exemplified by a passage in which he connects a method of rice cookery from Idwal Jones' High Bonnet to the originality of General MacArthur's military uniform.
